My husband has a varicocele. My impression and from what our RE said is that surgery for the varicocele isn't always the best. I guess it depends on your husband's sperm count. My husband had a borderline low sperm count...the low side of normal I think but his motility and morphology was good. We did not have surgery but I know he was put on antibiotics incase it was an infection. It is still there. I did get pregnant...twice from him the first ended in miscarriage.
Did he have a sperm analysis after the surgery? Your best bet would probably be to ask Rich.
Just remember ... it only takes one !!

My DH also has a varicocele and I think he's had it for like 10 years. It bothers him occasionally and was told it may interfere with him having a baby...or rather his wife having a baby. Anyway, we figured if it took us a while to get pg then we would look into getting it fixed. But it hasn't seemed to be a problem for us....I don't think he's in any rush to get it fixed. He bears the discomfort for now. I don't think he's crazy about getting his testicles messed with.

ya my husband has had if for a long time. Who knows when it first started. It sometimes hurts him or more is "achy" but seems to not have affected anything.
ya guys have a thing with getting their stuff messed with.....they would never make it as a woman.

It affected us. My husband had the surgery May 2005 and I had IVF with ICSI April 2006. It now seems to have come back. :( I did get pregnant, but not naturally with his low count, poor motility and morphology.

My DH has this too, but his count is okay and so we don't need the surgery. We have many other problems, but DH is fine even with his varicocele. It just hurts him sometimes.

Im sorry to hear its back, but u haven given me hope that a varicocele doesnt mean never having a baby. df is going for another s.a on wednesday and if the surgery has not helped his morphology we will be moving on to ivf as soon as possible.
thank u for all the responses, iv been having a very down week and just needed to hear some motivating thoughts and all of u ladies are blessed with gorgeous baby's ...so that gives me alot of hope ...thank u :)

my dh has had the surgery and it helped him with his morphology in a big way. the dr said that he could still get me pregnant without the surgery but we opted for it. we figured it would improve out chances. it turns out i wasn't ovulating and had to take clomid anyway...
My dh's morphology was 1%, after the varicocele we were asked to wait 3 months before the next sperm test. 1 month before the test and 2 months after the varicocele surgery we conceived. Baby bay is now 5 months old. For us ,the surgery seemed to work, prior to that we were trying for 2 years, and living dangerously (without contraceptives) for an additional 5. I think it's all thanks to the procedure. Good luck
