Has anyone done any research, known anyone, etc. about doing IVF in another country? I see it is $4795 for IVF in Argentina, plus meds which are about $2000 plus airfare. This includes a 21 day stay, translator, and all medical procedures. I am weary because you hear stuff on the news, but it is plausible because I know the peso is lower than the dollar. Just curious if anyone has any info. If this year does not go well we may consider IVF next year and I am just looking for answers. Thanks in advance. -Julie

Here in Canada, depending on the clinic I think it's between $7,000 - $8,500, plus meds... much of which is covered with the right health plan.

Or so the stories go from those that I've spoken to here in southern Ontario. Knock on wood I haven't made it to this point yet.

I just posted something about IVF on the "cost of building a family" page. I'll paste it here so you don't have to go searching for it!

IVF is much cheaper in Europe. In London, most clinics average between £2,500-£3,500 including drugs. Lots more egg sharer programs here as well, were you will only have to pay for the initial tests roughly £600 and you "share" 50% of your eggs with the clinic. I have completed 4 cycles of Clomid with no success and I am looking at the egg sharer route at the moment because I do not know how long it will take for IVF treatment on the NHS.

Hi there JJJulie

We live in Newfoundland, Canada and at the moment I am in the middle of taking meds, bloodtests and Ultrasounds (which is done here in NL) for my first IVF. The actual IVF procedure will be done however in a clinic in Calgary. We fly out in 4 days time (14th Feb) and if all goes well the procedure will take place the 6-8 days later.

Our meds cost cnd$3,100 (insurance company covered capped one time amount of $2,500). Our costs for the procedure itself is cdn$5,700. (The basic cost is $4,500).

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Hi there from South Africa

Just thought a would add some information from a totally different part of the world. I am going to have IVF done in March in Johannesburg South Africa. The cost of IVF can vary between R18 000 an R20 000. Currently the Rand is at a level af round about R7 to $1. Therefore that would translate to between $2 572 to $2 858 and this includes meds.
I am not sure what you guys know about South Africa but I our Private Hospital facilities are brilliant.
Just another option to consider.
