I'm scheduled to have an HSG and a LAP on the 16th and am starting to get concerned about risks associated with these procedures. Are there any? Has anyone encountered any problems?

Send word.

Thanks

Hey Jen!

I can't believe that you're 32 weeks already. I guess it's getting to the point that I've been visiting these sites long enough for someone to go full cycle. I remember when you got your BFP it was an exciting time and one of the first for me to experience virtually.

Thanks for your 2 cents and I'm glad that all is well.

D- HSG's are nothing to worry about. You may feel a lot of cramping, but it doesn't ruin anything concerning tryying to concieve. I know of many women who went in for their HSG's, which can clear your tubes, and then they got pregnant right away. Of course this isn't always the case- me being an example of that, unfortunately!!!!!

Let me know how they went! I never had a lap done, so i can't make any comments on that one!

Good Luck!

D, Ditto what Lisa said about having better luck once you have a procedure such as a Lap or HSG done. Good Luck!!

D-

I've had 3 HSG's - each time they had me take motrin 1 hr. before and then rest the remainder of the day. I had some cramping while the dye was going in and more cramping once I got home. I put a heating pad on my stomach & it felt much better and just watched tv & slept. After 3rd one I did take 1 tylenol/codeine to help w/cramps not sure if because I had hydro cramps were more intense that time or what.
I've had 2 Laps - 1st one was to laser off endo, and see if tube could be opened. Found lots of scar tissue/adhesions. That was done on a Wed. and by Fri. nite I was back walking on my treadmill. 2nd Lap was different because I had my tubes removed due to hydro. That was done on a Fri. and I could have gone to work Mon. but doc told me to take week off; I went to work Thurs. He gave me percocet after each Lap. 1st one they made 2 tiny incision on right/left and thru bellybutton. 2nd one they made tiny incision on left and thru bellybutton. I developed a fear of anesthesia after they couldn't wake me after a D&C so day before last LAP I had a minimeltdown I was so nervous & doc prescribed xanax to be taken day before surgery and a.m. of surgery. They also put something in my IV once I got there. So if you are really anxious it is safe to give you something - I'm living proof - LOL!

I had an HCG and a lap. I am assuming you meas Hysterosalpingogram right? not hysteroscopy which is often done with a lap.

My lap was to rulr out endometriosis. It ruled it in and they removed a moerate amount. They also found a cyst on my tube and saw that one of my tubes was a little weird. Anyway, I did have soome discomfort from being blown up with the gas and that took several days to disapate but otherwise it wasn't too bad.
I think the risks are really dependent on what they are going in to do and how skilled you surgeon is. I know that with hysteroscopies, it is very important to have a very skilled Dr. if you are removing any scar tissue. That can make or break your fertility. A HSG I think have very minimal side sffects and you only get minor cramping afterwards.

Hope that helps,
