I always get cramps for about a day or two around the time I o. Do you think that the cramping is when I'm actually o or before o or maybe towards the end of o? Does anyone else experience this?

Hi Mindy,
I also have always had ovulation cramps and have wondered the same as you. Until my first IUI, I had assumed that when the cramps came on, ovulation was happening. About 2 weeks ago, I had my first IUI and cramped the entire day (the cramps actually began the night before). Right after the actual IUI the nurse did a sono to check for a collapsed follicle. She didn't find one. So she did a blood test to check my progesterone level. My levels indicated i had NOT yet ovulated. So for me, this provided insight - when I feel the cramps, I've not yet ovulated. Three days later I had another progesterone check, which did indicate I had ovulated. For me, actual ovulation must happen after the cramps.

Hello :)
I have been off the pill since the 3rd week of October '05. I just ovulated by myself for the first time last week since getting off the pill on CD 33!! Since I thought I was getting menstrual cramps (had 2 anovulatory periods before) I didn't think to BD...but it wasn't my period, it was O!! The day my temps spiked I stopped having cramps...so I think it must be before Oing also...

Thank you so much for replying if you guys get a chance to read this! Maybe I'll try something different this month if cramping happens before o!
