steps for IVF

I have one quick question. When you go in for the egg retrieval for IVF do they have to completely sudate you or are you awake for the procedure? Im just a little scared of this part and would like some input please. Thank you for your time.

They put you under - it's called "conscience sedation".... just like a general anesthesia - but you're just asleep. Wake up time for me was immediate w/out being groggy afterwards (or sick).

Of course you are a bit scared! I had this done 5 times, and I was scared each time - and it's not a big deal!!!! lol. I would tell you don't worry about it - but that's a lie because I worried too!!!! Good luck :)

The two IVF's I did were the only two times I've been under anesthesia and I have to say I was really impressed! There really was nothing to it. My husband said I speak a little slower in the first minute or two when I come back, but then I am back to normal. If you can...don't focus on the procedure...you won't feel a thing. Just try to keep mentally focused on maturing those eggs to the very end. :)

The second IVF worked for us and now we're expecting our first baby in October. Baby dust to you!!

Praying, I was out for my 2 ERs, but do check with your doctor. I've talked to some women on these boards whose clinics do not put them under. They usually get pain meds or valium or some such, however. So do ask, because on the off chance that your clinic does not put you under for the procedure, you don't want to be caught off-guard! BTW, the second IVF worked for me too. Good luck!!!
