Hi all,

just looking for a little info here (I tried some research on the topic, and can't seem to find anything useful) - Mrs Fish, for various scheduling reasons (and a small slipup on the doc's part), is on bcps for longer than the "standard" 3 weeks prior to stims. Now, a few years ago (pre TTC) her doc suggested she stay on bcps for 3 months at a time - many women do well with that, and it allows for fewer menses per year, so less hassle etc. Whenever she tried that, though, she ended up with "breakthrough bleeding" at around 4 weeks or 6 weeks. So she quit trying.

So, now, she has been on bcps continuously for almost 4 weeks, and she is starting to experience spotting or "breakthrough bleeding".

My question is - does anyone know if/how that would affect the next cycle? She was supposed to stop bcps on the 9th, and then have her menses, and then start stims - so it SEEMS like it should not be a big deal, but what do I know? ;)

Anyone ever hear anything about this?

Fish

I really don't think it effects your cycle. I break thru spot around the 2nd week on them and than have a peroid around day 26-28.

hmmmm? Your wife seems to respond differently to BCP's.

I am not much of a help here. When will she be starting the Lupron?

I am going to put a call into my RE about using ICSI and if it is necessary with donor sperm. There is no male factor involved. Why should I for out 2k more? hmmmmm?

I am so many questions!

I hope you have a good work week. Good Luck with everything! :)

Hi fishdoc!
I occassionally check in to see where everyone is at....and noticed your post about bcp....
I also was on them for longer than expected (almost five weeks) and I also had some breakthrough bleeding. I called my RE who said that it would not interfer with my IVF cycle. When I stopped the bcp I did have get my period as expected...I do believe it was also a "normal" period for me. I, like you also looked for information on this situation and found little to nothing other than my RE's reassurance I had didn't have too much to go on.
My girlfriend (who also happens to be a pediatric physician) spent nine years trying to concieve....finally on her fifth (yep, fifth time) she got pregnant with twins). Her fifth try was also the one that she used bcp with...and was on them for four weeks, had break through bleeding and then cycled successfully.
I hope this info. helps....although not totally "scientific" it has some validity.
Best of luck to you and Mrs. Fish...I will be watching to see how you do!
As always I think of you all soooo often throughout my day. We are done with the IVF route and if we should concieve naturally that would be wonderful, although I am no longer "obsessing" about my cycles. In the meantime we continue to take care of my father in law and treasuring each moment that he is with us...
Peace and many dreams fullfilled~
Marie

Fishdoc, with my first IVF cycle, I was on bcp for 5 weeks. I don't remember exactly what the problem was, but I think it was just a scheduling thing. I started spotting and bleeding the day after I started my 4th week of pills and continued through the last day of taking the bcp. I then stopped for two days and then started a full flow period. I got 8 eggs out of that cycle. It ended in a bfn, but that didn't seem to have anything to do with the extra pills. Pills create an artificial cycle, so the bleeding is not the same as bleeding from a normal cycle. I wouldn't worry about it for Mrs Fish. Good luck to you both on this new cycle!

Marierose, good to hear from you. Glad your fil is still hanging in there and you're able to spend time with him. All the best to you!
