Hi, Everyone.

I've scheduled a first time consultation with an acupuncturist to address some of my fertility issues. Does anyone know what I can expect and more importantly does it work?

Thanks!

:) Hi TTCinNC. Congratulation on choosing acupuncture. I really enjoy my sessions and recommend acupuncture to everyone!
Usually your first visit includes a medical assessment from the ACP (we've had to come up with our own acronym because always typing acupuncturist takes too long! :) ) and may include your first session with the needles. Are you seeing a TCM practitioner or someone who specializes in infertility issues? The reason that I ask is their approaches may be different. My ACP is not a TCM (ie he does not prescribe herbs etc.) so we just do weekly AC for my issues (I have PCOS).
As for whether or not it is successful, on the other thread you will find some information supporting it. Lynne and Corinne are both PG and I had a CP last month and I O on my own w/o fertility meds. This has never happened for me before.
Hope this was helpful.

I am a success story with acupuncture. Was given less than 10% chance of IVF working and now 8 weeks pregnant. I did acu for 3 months prior to my IVF to improve egg quality. I am going to continue throughout my pregnancy.

Thanks, ladies! I'm glad to hear that an alternative approach is worth pursuing. Congrats on your pregnancy, Patty!

The ACP I saw specializes in infertility. We had a very long assessment that included sleep patterns, sexuality, reproductive function, stress, doctor's assessment, dietary habits...It was very involved - I feel like she will definitely create a treatment plan especially for me. I also had my first treatment today - It was fantastic!! I'll definitely keep it up.

Also, when I finally get that BFP, I will continue to see hear as she does prenatal treatments and is a trained and licensed doula!

Thanks!!

I too have had success with acupuncture. I did IVF for the first time and only produced 2 follicles, the dr. recommended acupuncture and I began right away. My acupuncturist recommended I postpone my next cycle so she could have more time to treat me. I did herbs 6 days a week and acupuncture up to 3 times a week, mostly twice a week and produced 8 eggs in my second go around, and I am now 27 weeks pregnant with twins. I continued to see her through week 20 to help with lowering the rate of miscarriage. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my acupuncturist and truly credit her to my success. She does specialize in fertility and I feel was extremely knowledgeable. Ladies trust me I strongly strongly believe in this and highly recommend it for everyone! GOOD LUCK

I live in FL, my acupuncturist was recommended by the fertility clinic...my doctor firmly believes in it and sends patients to her.

I have been lurking in the ALternative Therapies for a while, and I am on my first cycle with ACP/Herbs. In the past I have been on CLomid, and I decided to give the natural approach a try. 16 months and I have never O'd without Clomid...

I got a +OPK on Saturday with only ACP/Herbs!!! Just thought I would pop in and spread the news, I am so excited!!! I am a believer:)

I have just started ACP - But in my first cycle of treatment I saw my pre-menstrual spotting go down from 5 days to 3! and it was much less spotting Which is progress in the righ direction!
My doc -TCM -recommended reading "the Infertility Cure" by Randine Lewis. It explains a lot of the concepts and how food, diet and exercise can play a role.
Dr. Lewis was an OBGYN that sruggled with Infertility issues, and tried ACP and got PG. She then studied TCM in China and worked there for 7 years before returning to the US to open up a clinic and retreat center. It makes her the perfect person to write this book and explain eatern vs. western medicine.

I am very optimistic about it.

Wan2b3: Come over to the acupuncture board under therapies. There's a bunch of us over there. We love that book by the way! It's very informational!

Has anyone had ACP treatment without any others? That is, 100% ACP without drugs, IVF, IUI or anything? I've been through Clomid. Was going to go through round of MegaStim, but have now decided to go all natural. Wanted to know if anyone had success this way.

I just saw this post. It's been a while since anyone posted on here. But I'll reply anyway. I was ttc 2 1/2 years. 2 years of trying hard with clomid, then 7 iui's, laproscopy, burned off some mild endo, then finally accupunture. I stopped everything but accupunture then stopped that too after 4-5 months of no success. My accupunturist (who specializes in fertility) told me to keep ttc because she thought my body was now finally ready. One month later I got pg naturally. Abbey will be 2 soon. Accupunture had a lot to do with it I think. Of course we prayed a lot too and ultimately it was God who made it happen. In His timing. I also did green tea and epo.
